01What Advent is
Advent means arrival. For many Christians it is the season of waiting and preparing before Christmas. It looks back to the long years when God's people waited for the promised king, and it looks ahead, because the New Testament speaks of Jesus coming again.
Churches observe it in different ways. Some begin four Sundays before Christmas and light a candle each week. Some follow set readings and colors. Some don't mark Advent at all and simply celebrate Christmas. All of that is fine. This plan is not tied to any one practice.
To keep it simple, this plan runs from December 1 to December 25, one reading a day. If your church's Advent starts on a different day, you can start there or line the readings up however works for you.
